March 11, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. Jennifer Evans and Richard Kinsley: Music of the Appalachian and Hammered Dulcimer TICKETS
Jennifer Evans Kinsley and Richard Kinsley, of Granville, Ohio, will bring traditional dulcimer music to PAL for a special early afternoon performance on March 11. The duo will perform folk-based music, with roots extending from Medieval Europe to 1800s Appalachia. They regularly appear at venues that include the Ohio History Village’s Dickens of a Christmas and the Frontier Spirit 1799 historical re-enactment.
During their musical program, they’ll also describe the histories of their instruments, including the hammered dulcimer, first introduced in 900 AD. It quickly became a favorite of musicians from the ancient Middle East to the European Renaissance, coming to the US in the early 1700s. Also prominent in their repertoire is the mountain dulcimer, which originated in Southwest Virginia in the early 1800s.
“We have fallen in love with the dulcet tones shared by these two folk instruments of very different origins,” says Jennifer.
